Welcome to the official website for Joe Green. Green is a prolific artist whose medium spans from oil on canvas, resin art, 2D and 3D surfaces, high end digital aerospace and naval design, game and graphics design, 3D animation, simulations, media production, minting the finest silver bullion coins dedicated to the legacy of the RCAF, interior space design and renovations. Green is a graduate of one of the worlds most prestigious schools: Emily Carr University. His speciality is Fine Arts Painting & 3D computer visualisation. He completed one year of engineering before realising that it was not for him, however he never lost the fundamentals he learned within Engineering & has consulted for the IBM’s Watson Research Center Department of Silicon Nanophotonics providing media for their world wide press releases. Green has paintings hanging across Canada, Australia, Europe and the world with his most treasured works hang in the House of Commons in Ottawa, the Canadian Space Agency in St. Hubert, Quebec and Edmonton Garrison. He has shown works in various galleries along side works produced by various celebrities including Anthony Hopkins and has presented segments of his famed “Space Rope” to a variety of international celebrities including Sting, Stephen Colbert, Michael Buble and others. His works have shown in a variety of large galleries including the Art Gallery of Alberta to small cafe’s in Vancouver.

Green, a self admitted recluse does not seek the spotlight nor the adulation that comes with the art scene. At his first major opening in Vancouver, over 2M people were informed due to the subject matter of raising awareness of the plight of the citizens of the Cambie Village prior to the 2010 Olympic Games. Green produced 6 canvases and raised funds to assist in the efforts to help the local businesses. Green is nearly entirely all about the work. He believes that in order for any work to be truly great, it must be devoid of any ego and that ethos carries through all of his work. Green is one of only 15 Canadians in history to ever be bestowed with the honour of being made an Honourary Member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry for his work commemorating Canadian sacrifices made on the field of battle in Afghanistan and was the only Canadian to be presented with a signed flag of Third Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He made that flag available to the Canadian Space Agency where it flew on STS-115/12A with Dr. Steve MacLean. He sent along with his flag, thin golden rope which he sent to orbit connected to the flag and has presented segments of that rope to a variety of celebrities along with placing segments of that rope into his paintings. When he presents those segments, it is done so out of the highest levels of expression and respect possible to recognise recipients with a symbol which he regards as a direct connection to how Canadian Artists are free to express themselves based on the sacrifices of Canadian Forces without fear of physical reprisal, threats or death. Running a flag up the pole of the International Space Station is the highest flag pole in the world and that rope is a way to share the view of integrity, honour and creative expression through the view from orbit.

I introduced to Commader Hadfield through my experience with Dr. MacLean and showed him the bird. It was a cool experience meeting him and Ed Robertson from the Bare Naked Ladies. I attended a the rehearsal at the Edmonton Shaw Conference Centre they performed at and without a doubt, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I gave the band copies of my print of the flag. They are all super cool.

Green requests that when people paint with him, that they sign the back as a way to anchor their name to art history. Here is one example of his art practice.

Green graduated from Emily Carr University in 2008 with a focus on painting and 3D computer visualisation and was the only student to ever send work into orbit with his military space flag and the only student in that year to employ Motion Capture (MOCAP) in his grad film which he produced to honour and thank his parents. He spent 16 months, working 60-80 hrs a week for 16 months strait to provide ‘one last dance’ for his parents as his mother died when he was a young boy of 8 from breast cancer and wanted to produce something to acknowledge his mother, but to thank his father for being and outstanding parent and turning Green into someone his mother would be proud of today. Green loves people. He loves to engage people and inquire about their journey in life and painting on the streets have provided the ability to traverse a variety of various social circles, all of which he’s offered to share his love and passion of the most ancient practice of painting. His believes that his fundamental freedoms of expression are directly tied to the sacrifices made by Canadian Forces and as such, firmly rooted his practice in honouring and supporting those who serve.

…A Note From “Mum”

A response from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: Queen of Canada.

“I’m only interested in producing the worlds best. Full stop. Out of all the work that I have produced thus far, my coins stand the best chance for them to survive for the next 1000 years. I have a plan to place one of the first prototype Avro Arrow coins on the moon as a way to honour the original engineers who worked at Avro on the Arrow, but one step at a time.”

Here are some examples of Green’s work within the minting and time piece areas of art. The objective of the coin effort is to establish a legacy physically capable of withstanding the rigours of a millennium and beyond. When Green started out in this effort, his objective was to create the finest coin ever made, without exception and regardless of costs. “It costs what it costs. I don’t care about the costs, I only care about the work, its beauty, meaning, significance and sheer calibre of excellence. My goal is to put one of these Avro Arrow coins on the moon as a testament to the Canadian Engineers who built the Avro Arrow who went on to build the Lunar Lander during the Apollo Program so that it can reside there, potentially for hundreds of millions of years and possibly until the very end of the life of our sun, bearing witness to the end of earth’s history. I already sent work into orbit, my next target is the moon and eventually when it gets up there, I want to be able to look up at our moon and think to myself, “Yup…I got some artwork up there.” “Eventually when I am able to achieve that, the next goal is to design and deploy a collective global arts performance piece, involving all the artists on earth, compile all the digital media into a format which I can build into a deep space satellite and send it to our closest star system as the largest artistic performance piece in human history. The technology is evolving to the point where soon, this achievement will be possible perhaps by 2030. A Thank you Note from Canadian Astronaut CMDR Chris Hadfield

I sent CMDR a custom made watch, a copy of the Super Arrow for X-Plane and a small gift for his lovely, kind and very gracious wife.

As a professional 3D visualisation expert, Green has spent over 13 years working in high end 3D and over 20 in advanced graphic design, multimedia and web design and has consulted for the official broadcasting company for the Edmonton Oilers, NHLPA, film companies that routinely work with celebrities ranging from Patrick Stewart, Robert Redford and others. Green’s prolific nature transfers over into the digital realm where he is not encumbered by the costs associated with painting. If Green painted full time for one year, he would burn through over 1M in art supplies alone. Within the digital realm, it offers unique challenges which are cerebral in nature and requires creative and technical problem solving on a highly advanced level that are in some cases beyond unorthodox. Green has routinely been able to sit in on a meeting with a client and thanks specifically to his training, he is able to take the abstract idea presented, then translate them into not only elegant 3d models, but models that can actually function. In this arena, his interests are not about making things look pretty, but actually building things that work and function in the real world. He has also fended off attempts to seize Beaverworks and the Super Arrow by hostile foreign groups as he is committed to keeping the company and vision Canadian.

Green has been fortunate to have worked with some of the finest minds in aerospace today and looks forward to continue to expand his portfolio of work. It all started with Risk. My buddies and I got into it and after about 15 hours, we realised Risk was not meeting our needs, so we got into Axis and Allies. Well as time went on, we pushed the game by adding multiple sets, expanded the map to 4’x3′, 6’x4′ then an 8’x10′ map. The game was so amazing, that all of our friends came over to watch while we played every week. We listened to the soundtrack to Apocalypse Now and famous speeches of the 20th Century to help set the mood. We evolved the game to make it more enjoyable to play. We were told that our War Room was better than the one Winston Churchill had. Eventually this game will be rebuilt to play again.

After realising that he didn’t want a career in engineering, he took some time off to figure out his passions and interests and part of that was playing, expanding and inventing games. The two favourite games was an entirely new adaptation of Axis & Allies and a new version of Chess which was more expansive, elegant, advanced and much more enjoyable than regular chess. It is the goal of Green to develop and publish these games and apply some new and innovative ideas into the general project which has been with him since 1998.

The background, black and white image above is the concept setting for the chess game located at the base of a volcano and the massive statues are alive, watching and enjoying the carnage. The game would have been released by now, however due to his workload, he has not been able to release it. He invented this game on September 16th, 1996 at 4:15 AM. When his room mates and friends saw this, they were intrigued. Thousands of games have been played with hundreds of people and each game is absolutely magnificent. If Chess is like English, this chess game is like Queens English. Its more refined, there are more options, permutations and combinations and with the introduction of the Prince and Princess into Chess, adds an entirely new layer of strategy and enjoyment. The plan for this is to release the 4 player as an online game with the 8 player to follow.

“I recall when I was in university, I had a top of the line Dell high end workstation which I purchased for 3D. This was when the world was switching over from 32 bit to 64 bit and both the hardware and software were not well thought out nor made. I recall sitting in my apartment on the floor, drunk and crying because I had nearly 30K worth of workstations on the floor and nothing worked. I lost countless hours on the phone with tech support trying to fix problems. When they could not solve it, a tech was dispatched. When he couldn’t fix it, they would send a replacement workstation. I went through 9 replacement workstations. Sure I paint, but I’m also one of those hard core computer nerds and I’ve flat lined my systems so many times, I’ve lost count. I have a fundamental contempt for computers and I’m that guy that not only wants to push it, I want to crush systems. When I say crush, I mean absolutely crush it with a simulation so advanced that even the most powerful supercomputers in the world would buckle. Computers are my slave and I thought about taking 20 years off and wait for systems to catch up to a base minimum, but I pretty much said ‘the hell with it” and decided to partner with my buddy and design one from the ground up. My dad raised me with a fundamental understanding of masking, and what’s all involved and its complicated enough to enjoy the process and making one should be rewarding. Canada needs to have a company to represent our country in this arena and I want Beaverworks to be that company. That way, by building it from the chipset up, we can ensure that security is built right in because Information Security is absolutely paramount, especially when simulation studies in aerospace are required. No one needs to know anything.” -Joe Green

Anything short of being able to model and simulate all the particles within the known universe, on a 1:1 basis is simply not good enough. Between atmospheric, cosmic and environmental simulation studies comprised of hundreds of trillions of particles to just begin with, our goal is to build and develop our own, Canadian-solution for supercomputer needs with an emphasis on integrity of data security, exceptionally fast computational speeds and exceptional profitability. At present, Green is involved in consulting and partnering with a group which is deep in development. In addition to this, Green is also working on a new generation intelligent trading system custom tailored to the hardware being developed.

The image here is of a simulated water flow using only a few hundred thousand particles. Green’s ambition for computational access is to run cosmic impact studies which would study the impact of a comet hitting the North American Ice Sheet in 10200 BC and simulating what an explosion of that size (150 000X greater than all of humanities nuclear stock pile being detonated at once) would yield in environmental impact as fresh water flooded the ocean and impacts on global costliness.
