Ahhh Chess…My old friend.
When my first roommates first got into war games, it started with Risk. It then moved into Axis & Allies. Soon the map was too small so I made bigger ones. It grew from a 6′ x 4′ map, all the way into an 8′ x 10′ war map from the Defence Mapping Agency, with thousands of hand painted pieces, new technology and a War Room which was claimed as being nicer than the one Winston Churchill had. A typical turn round took about an hour, so on a good night, we could get in about 6-7 rounds. This game infected our dreams. We listened to ‘Famous Speeches of the 20th Century’ and when you looked at your enemy, the intensity was enhanced by a speech by your enemy, which lust for their destruction to follow. Yes, this was an utterly amazing game to play, as even when not in play, you would wander downstairs and just stare at it for hours, waiting for the next move. This was an absolutely magnificent entity to have.

After realising that he didn’t want a career in engineering, he took some time off to figure out his passions and interests and part of that was playing, expanding and inventing games. The two favourite games was an entirely new adaptation of Axis & Allies and a new version of Chess which was more expansive, elegant, advanced and much more enjoyable than regular chess. It is the goal of Green to develop and publish these games and apply some new and innovative ideas into the general project which has been with him since 1998. Green is an avid chess player, was first taught the game by his sister when he was about 6 and by high school, played the Canadian Chess Champion when he visited the school. Green drew him out the longest and lost because Green was playing the black set and the game was won by initiative. They both knew 7 moves out that Green lost, however he was gifted a one year membership to the Edmonton Chess Society for the valiant, but futile effort.
Someday Green would like to challenge Gary Kasparov, IBM’s Deep Blue and current undisputed world chess champion Magnus Carlson to a game.
The background, black and white image above is the concept setting for the chess game located at the base of a volcano and the massive statues are alive, watching and enjoying the carnage. The game would have been released by now, however due to Green’s workload, he has not been able to release it. He invented this game on September 16th, 1996 at 4:15 AM. When his room mates and friends saw this, they were intrigued. Thousands of games have been played with hundreds of people and each game is absolutely magnificent. If Chess is like English, this chess game is like Queens English. Its more refined, there are more options, permutations and combinations and with the introduction of the Prince and Princess into Chess, adds an entirely new layer of strategy and enjoyment. The plan for this is to release the 4 player as an online game with the 8 player to follow.
Here are two games Green produced with the gracious support of truly amazing artists and coders. Unfortunately these two games were “warm ups” for the major game we were planning on releasing, however our main programmer ended up getting his dream job and unfortunately we were never able to push further with game development during that time. These were games designed specifically to test the security and integrity of our database. However, plans are in the works to eventually release some new, innovative and mind blowing games.
